Helping people create space to nourish their well-being from the inside out is my passion, especially Black + Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). So many of us feel as though we don’t have the time, capacity, or permission to tend to our needs. And it’s not our fault - we’ve been hardwired to hustle.

Over my decade-long career as a public health communications strategist (more on that here), I’ve helped people and populations change the way they view mental health and self-care, overcoming some of that hardwiring. And over my decade-plus long yoga journey, I’ve learned how to use yoga as a Soul Care system to overcome some of my own hardwiring (as well as the effects of unhealed trauma and professional burnout), allowing me to find ease, rest, and reclaim my right to move at a slower and sustainable pace.

I’ve been teaching yoga since 2015. My 200-hour certification from LifePower Yoga centered on Ashtanga Vinyasa (a meditative yet fairly rigorous sequence of specific poses), Vinyasa (a flow-based practice linking one breath to one movement), and Slow Flow (a flow-based practice with fewer poses and longer holds). I also have a certification from Yoga Skills in Kemetic Yoga, which retraces yoga’s origins back to our Ancient Egyptian ancestors, as well as certifications in Sound Healing and Ayurvedic Nutrition. I weave in my knowledge of health behavior change, safe messaging, and mental health—gained from my profession and education (M.S. in Health Communications, B.S. in Sociology + a few additional certs)—into every class, offering, and interaction.

I’ve taught huge classes in large studios, yoga festivals, and even Black Tech Week 2023, and small classes in parks and online. To me, smaller classes are where it’s at because I love offering a more tailored experience centered on authenticity and connection. This is also one of the reasons I enjoy teaching private sessions and employee wellness services, too, as well as leading Yoga Teacher Training.

My offerings are tailored to BIPOC; Black + Brown folx especially. After years of being the only or one of a few Black people in the studio—and the first Black yoga teacher in one particular studio—it’s most important to me that I hold space for our healing and wholeness in a way that helps us feel seen, heard, and understood.

When I’m not teaching, working or practicing, I’m spending time with my “husbae”, offspring, and puppy. Or resting (which also includes soaking in the tub with a book and a glass of wine)! I’m a bookworm and music lover, so you may hear me spewing random Toni Morrison quotes or hip-hop/R&B bars.

We can get to know each other more on Instagram, through my newsletter “the sip” or my blog “hustle + flow,” and of course, by working together 1:1 or in class! Questions? Book a discovery call or send me an email.
